AJIRA DIGITAL PROGRAM

In March 2022, we officially opened our doors for an activation of the Ajira Digital Program at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT). This program which is domiciled in the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs aims at promoting digital and digitally-enabled jobs for youth in Kenya through linkage to such opportunities created in the public and private sectors. Since the activation, we have had more than 200 students trained physically on 4 out of 5 categories: Content Writing, Digital Marketing, Transcription and Data Management – training on Virtual Assistance is to be done before the start of the 2nd round of training. Many more students have been trained virtually. The training is an annual activity where each year, we will strive to have a round of both physical and virtual training on the 5 categories with mentorship of students happening throughout every year.

The training has made it possible for students to successfully navigate the world of digital jobs and many have managed to start making a living and facilitating their fee payment through what they earn. We have made strides also in terms of establishment of a DeKUT Ajira Digital Club which was launched in June 2022 by the Chief Administrative Secretary, ICT & Innovation in a colorful event where the University also signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KePSA). This club is a way of creating a community of peer online workers where they can help each other navigate the online space, grow and earn while maintaining their commitment as students in various programmes.
